Medical Receptionist Job Summary

The Medical Receptionist is the initial point of contact when a patient arrives and represents the office. The Medical Receptionist greets patients, navigates the check in and out process while striving for patient satisfaction in every interaction.

Medical Receptionist Core Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Effectively and accurately performs laboratory procedures including completion of drug screens, venipuncture draw, vital signs, specimen collection and COVID testing
  • Follows intake procedure and ensures completion of intake process, providing support to both patients and providers as needed
  • Enters appropriate information into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
  • Ensures compliance with all policies and procedures, including maintaining patient confidentiality, as well as compliance with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e. OSHA, CLIA, HIPAA, Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, etc.)
  • Identifies and resolves work problems to ensure quality patient service
  • Communicates effectively within the organization providing regular updates to providers, supervisors and peers about current and completed tasks
  • Addresses complaints by providers, staff, and patients; escalates to management, when necessary
  • Provides coverage for ancillary services when needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Medical Receptionist Job Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education/Experience:
    • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred.
    • 1-year prior healthcare experience preferred.
