
About Shamika Hinton
LMSW
Shamika is a professional social worker with a background in forensic psychology. This Tennessee native earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Austin Peay State University, Masters degree in Forensic Psychology with a concentration in Assessment and Treatment from Argosy University, and their Master of Social Work from Widener University.
Shamika has over 10 years of experience working with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families in the therapeutic setting. Shamika began their career in community mental health at Centerstone in the Nashville area before transitioning to PRTF to work with adolescent males struggling with maladaptive sexual behaviors. Shamika also worked with referring parties across the nation to identify appropriate placement options for youth needing a higher level of care.
In their therapeutic practice, Shamika adopts both a collaborative clinical and forensic viewpoint that is a client centered approach using Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and other interventions that are tailored to the client’s life experience. Her passions include working with clients to heal from intergenerational traumas, adverse childhood experiences, grief and loss, financial wellness, veterans and military members, sexual health and wellness, and Women’s Mental Health specifically the perinatal period
Shamika has worked with clients from various backgrounds including, but not limited to, those who are experiencing Anxiety, Depression, Post-traumatic stress disorder, Attention-deficit / hyperactivity disorder, substance use, sexuality dysfunction, and other emotional and behavioral ailments. Shamika’s therapeutic motto is “Give yourself grace as you navigate on your healing journey”.
In her spare time, Shamika enjoys exploring and indulging in the cultural cuisine and fashions of their travels, being a “tourist” in their ever-changing city, being with family including their dog, Ca$h, laughing with loved ones, and empowering their community through healing and education.
