Dr. James Arnett earned his B.A. in Psychology from the University of Memphis, and his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Tennessee. He completed his internship at Appalachian State University Student Counseling Center.

He has worked in a variety of settings since then, such as hospitals, mobile health and field clinics, and university counseling centers. His area of interests include mood disorders, helping clients recover from the impact of traumatic events and unsafe environs, and LGBT issues.

He primarily uses a combination of person-centered therapy, motivational interviewing, and solution-focused techniques. He aims to help clients gain insights into the complexity of their issues while offering tangible coping skills and strategies. He also has experience providing psychological services in international settings, and enjoys his work with people both from the U.S. and otherwise.
