What makes our assessment different?
Our approach is intentionally integrated, individualized, and evidence-based. Each assessment is coordinated by a lead evaluator who ensures all findings are synthesized into a coherent, clinically defensible conclusion — not a collection of disconnected opinions.
Integrated expertise
We bring psychology, psychiatry, medical evaluation, and collateral review together into a single, cohesive process. The result is a complete picture of functioning across clinical, personality, cognitive, and professional domains.
Data-driven and objective
Our assessments utilize standardized psychological testing, comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, medical and biological data, and thorough record review. We emphasize longitudinal functioning and objective findings rather than relying solely on self-report.
Sample schedule for three-day assessment program

Actual schedule may vary.
Custom evaluations
Each evaluation will follow a schedule and intensity level that is based on the referral questions. Not all participants will need all three days, and some evaluations may be done remotely. This will be based on the complexity of the case, preferences of the referral source and participant, and the specific referral questions. This will be determined prior to scheduling and initiating the evaluation process.
Why Athena Care?
Athena Care started as Dr. Ihrig’s private practice 26 years ago and is now one of the largest mental health providers in the Southeast. However, we do not offer any specialized care for professionals beyond the assessment process. We are truly independent, and our only priorities are, first, public safety, and second, but equally important, the care and well-being of the participant.

Dr. Ihrig is the lead on each of these cases and conducts the extended interviews. He is a forensic psychologist who has been conducting psychological assessments in complex cases his entire career.
