About Aijalon Carter

PMHNP-BC

Waiting room

Aijalon Carter is a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who earned her Master of Science in Nursing from Vanderbilt University School of Nursing. She is currently pursuing her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree with a post-master’s certificate in Nursing Education at Vanderbilt, continuing to build her skills in evidence-based practice, leadership, quality improvement, and education.
Before becoming a PMHNP, Aijalon spent several years working in critical care and rapid response nursing, caring for patients and families during some of their most vulnerable moments. Those experiences strengthened her clinical judgment and showed her how closely mental and physical health are connected, ultimately drawing her toward psychiatry.

During her psychiatric training, Aijalon worked in community mental health serving rural and underserved populations with a wide range of backgrounds and needs. She is equipped to treat clients across a broad range of ages and mental health needs, and she especially enjoys working with older adolescents and adults, with a particular interest in young adults. Her clinical interests include ADHD, mood and anxiety disorders, PTSD and other trauma-related conditions, and substance use concerns.

Aijalon approaches psychiatric care as a partnership. She takes time to understand each person’s symptoms within the context of their physical health, relationships, culture, life experiences, and personal goals. Her approach is evidence-based, trauma-informed, and collaborative, with a strong emphasis on education and shared decision-making. She wants clients to understand their treatment options, feel comfortable asking questions, and leave appointments with a clear sense of the plan moving forward. Her faith and commitment to service have shaped the compassion, humility, and respect she brings to caring for people with different beliefs, backgrounds, and values.

Outside of work, Aijalon enjoys traveling, exploring new cities and cultures, and discovering new restaurants. Her family and friends know her for always having a matcha nearby, her spontaneous adventures, quick sense of humor and contagious laugh, and the collection of rubber ducks across the dashboard of her Jeep Wrangler, each one left by fellow Jeep owners as part of the “Duck Duck Jeep” tradition. She brings that same warmth, curiosity, and sense of connection into her psychiatric practice, where she strives to make care feel personal, thoughtful, and approachable.
