PHP mental health Nashville: same-day help from Athena Care

If you’re searching for a partial hospitalization program in Nashville right now, you’re probably not looking for a long article. You’re trying to figure out who’s open, who you can actually reach, what insurance is accepted, and how soon you can start. So here’s what you need, up front.

Call our Nashville team at 877-641-1155. Our care coordinator answers Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and most callers reach a real person on the first try. We can walk you through admissions, run a benefits check, and schedule your initial assessment. We like to move quickly, and often can enroll you in PHP within 72 hours, depending on insurance authorization.

Program schedule and structure

Our Nashville location offers adult PHP and IOP programming.

  • Hours of operation: Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM
  • Adult IOP: IOP is 3 to 5 days per week, depending on clinical need. There are two adult IOP groups in Nashville right now: on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, 2:00–5:00 PM or Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 5:30-8:30 PM.
  • PHP schedule: PHP is 5 to 6 hours per day. Schedules are all unique and built with the patients, therapists and psychiatrists.

Programming at both PHP and IOP levels includes group therapy, specialized breakout groups, experiential groups, individual psychotherapy, medication management with our psychiatry team, and coordinated care with any outside providers you’re already working with. You can learn more about PHP and IOP here. You can also take this self-assessment quiz to help determine what level of care would be best for you.

Insurance accepted

Athena Care is in-network with most major commercial insurance providers.

Coverage for PHP and IOP typically requires pre-authorization based on medical necessity. We handle that documentation as part of intake, so you won’t be navigating the insurance paperwork on your own during what’s likely an already stressful time.

The admissions process, step by step

We’ve tried to keep this as straightforward as possible:

Step 1: Call. Reach our care coordinator at 877-641-1155. They’ll spend roughly 15 minutes asking what’s going on, what level of care you’re considering, and what insurance you have. If PHP isn’t actually the right starting level, they’ll tell you and point you to what is.

Step 2: Insurance verification. Our team runs your benefits, typically within the same business day, to confirm coverage and start any required pre-authorization.

Step 3: Clinical assessment. A licensed clinician conducts a comprehensive assessment, typically within 72 hours depending on urgency and scheduling. This confirms the right level of care (PHP vs IOP), identifies treatment priorities, and lays the groundwork for your individualized plan.

Step 4: First day of programming. Most patients can begin within 72 hours of the initial call, sometimes sooner for urgent situations. We’ll send you a what-to-bring list and answer any questions before you arrive.

What to expect on your first day

Plan for a slightly longer day, you’ll meet the team, complete a few intake forms, get a tour of the Suite 104 space, and start participating in your first group sessions.

Wear comfortable clothes. Bring a refillable water bottle, any medications you’ll need to take during the day, and your insurance card if it wasn’t already provided during intake.

Virtual options

Athena Care’s PHP can be entirely or partially virtual, as needed.

PHP Options Outside of Nashville

Athena Care also offers PHP in all of our locations and virtually. In addition to Nashville, these locations include Clarksville, Knoxville, Franklin, Murfreesboro, Hendersonville, and Memphis. You can learn more about our locations here.

A practical note: PHP days are long, often 5 to 6 hours of programming. If you’re commuting a significant distance daily, it’s worth thinking through whether driving each way is sustainable for the full course (typically 2 to 4 weeks), or whether you want to do some or all of the PHP virtually.

Other PHP options in Nashville

We believe in helping you make the right choice, even if that means a different program. Other Nashville-area PHP providers include:

  • Ascension Saint Thomas Behavioral Health Hospital (Full Circle PHP, adult, with virtual and on-site options)
  • TriStar Parthenon Pavilion (HCA-affiliated, hospital-based PHP)
  • Vanderbilt Behavioral Health (academic medical center programming)
  • Rogers Behavioral Health, Nashville (national specialty PHP/IOP, focuses including OCD, anxiety, mood, eating disorders, addiction, trauma)

Each program has different strengths, populations served, and admissions processes. If we’re not the right fit for you, our care coordinator will help you figure out who is.
